SAT/ACT Presentation Tomorrow!

This Wednesday, I'm giving a presentation at Washington-Lee High School called - shockingly - SAT or ACT: Choose Wisely! It's going to be fun and informative.  Details below.

SAT or ACT: Choose Wisely!

Where: The Little Theater at Washington-Lee High School (Arlington, VA)

When: Wednesday, October 26th at 7pm

What: If you're thinking about applying to college, you've probably heard that the SAT is no longer the only game in town. Its arch-rival, the ACT, is now just as popular nationwide, and every four-year college will accept either test. Since colleges don't care which one you take, the real question is: which is the better test for you? In this forty-minute presentation, I will provide you with the knowledge to decide that question for yourself.

We will avoid clichés such as "the SAT is less knowledge-based" (debatable) or "the ACT is an easier test" (just plain wrong) and instead deal with specifics: brief histories of the SAT and the ACT, side-by-side comparisons of sections and individual questions from each test, and a summary of the academic qualities that each test favors. As you will see, the SAT and the ACT are both deeply flawed, but students can learn to use the flaws to their advantage. You will emerge from the presentation with a pretty good sense of whether you should try the SAT, the ACT, both, or neither. A question-and-answer period will follow the lecture.
